Mimaki connection info for TCP/IP and USB set up requirements

The Mimaki devices which offer both a USB and TCP/IP connection method require certain prerequisites.

Connecting with USB:

  1. The latest Mimaki USB driver must be installed. Instruction of how to install the Mimaki driver can be find here.
Note:  If the Mimaki USB driver is not installed, you will find this error in the RIP log (RIP > View > event Log . Debug mode)

Connecting via TCP/IP :

  1.  The latest Mimaki USB driver must be installed. It can be found on the Mimaki website.
  2.  The USB cable must not be plugged in as well as the ethernet cable, so only the ethernet cable should be attached if printing by TCP/IP
  3. The printer & RIP computer must both be restarted after swapping between USB and TCP and after installing the Mimaki USB drivers.
The reason for this is that, even though the printer is connected to the RIP via Ethernet, the USB driver will intercept the TCP data and modify it to include the       necessary job settings before transmitting it to the printer. Failure to adhere to these prerequisites can result in the following errors:
  1. 'Error 206' on the printer front panel
  2. 'Communication with the printer failed' in the RIP print job.
  3. Incorrect alignment of White & Color layers
  4. Poor print quality and banding
If any of these errors are seen whilst connected by ethernet, confirm the above prerequisites are met.
