My Printer is Errored or Disconnected From the RIP
When your printer is in a red state, it can halt your printing tasks. This article is meant to cover the most common solutions to these issues.
The first step would be to note the error messages in the RIP that may be helpful.
Error Message: No license available
You either:
- Do not have a license to run this printer any longer
- You have too many printers installed (maybe on another computer RIP open?) and your license is being used elsewhere.
To fix:
- Ensure you have the correct number of licenses in software manager for how many printers you have. You can check with your sales person or support via email if it needs to be changed.
- If you do have a RIP open elsewhere with that license being used, you can go and turn the RIP off in the other location and restart your RIP where you want it open.
- If you need help troubleshooting this further please contact support.
Error Message: Failed to connect: Here is a quick checklist to run through for any sort of failed to connect issues:
1. Check the Connections
- Physical Cables: Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to the computer or network are secure.
- Network Connection: If the printer is connected via a network, verify that the network is active and the printer is on the same network as the RIP software.
- Folder Connection: Ensure that the folder you are outputting to is mounted to your PC/Mac and there is an active connection. You may need to log in with Admin credentials to restart that connection.
2. Restart Devices
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a minute, and turn it back on.
- Restart the Computer: Sometimes, simply restarting the computer where the RIP is installed can resolve connection issues.
3. Verify Printer Settings
- Correct Printer Selection: In the RIP software settings, check if the correct printer model is selected.
- IP Address Configuration: Confirm that the IP address in the RIP software matches the printer's IP address
- Does your printer output note PrintAgent? Have a look at our help article for more information.
4. Disable Firewall or Antivirus Temporarily
- Security Software: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus programs can block the connection. Try disabling them temporarily to see if that solves the problem.
5. Check for Printer Errors
- Printer Status: Look at the printer's control panel for any error messages or warning lights.
- Paper and Ink: Make sure there is paper loaded and sufficient ink or toner.
6. Are there special requirements for your printer?
Have a look through our knowledge base by searching your brand of printer to see if we have articles specifically noted for your device.
