What is the Smart Ink Limit?
The Smart Ink Limit, also referred to by Canon as Optimized Color Profiling (OCP), controls the amount of ink used when profiling Canon Colorado M-series gloss print modes.
Selecting the correct value helps prevent visible gloss banding and produces a more uniform glossy finish.

Note: The printer button is shown only for supported Canon Colorado M-series Gloss and FLXfinish+ modes.
When must the Smart Ink Limit be determined?
Determine the value before printing the linearization chart when creating a PMM for:
- Gloss Specialty
- FLXfinish+
The setting is not required for Matte or White print modes.
How do I print the OCP test chart?
- Start creating the PMM in PrintFactory Calibrator.
- Select the required Gloss or FLXfinish+ print mode.
- Locate the Smart Ink Limit setting.
- Click the printer icon beside the setting.
- Select the printer and print the OCP test chart.
- Examine the chart and select the value that provides an even gloss appearance without visible gloss banding.
- Enter the selected value as the Smart Ink Limit.
- Continue with the normal calibration process.
The test chart is printed without ink limiting or other calibration corrections, ensuring that it can be used to determine the appropriate starting value.
Which print mode should I use to determine the value?
Use Gloss Specialty to determine the primary OCP value.
The value selected for Gloss Specialty can also be used for the other Gloss print modes, with the following exceptions:
- Max Speed: Keep the Smart Ink Limit at level 1, as this mode deposits less ink.
- FLXfinish+: Use a value equal to or lower than the value used for Gloss High Quality.
