Summa Twin X

Summa Twin X

Summa's Twin X mode is a workflow designed to enhance cutting efficiency by integrating Summa roll cutters with F Series flatbed cutters. This integration allows both machines to process the same cutting files and registration marks, optimizing productivity. In this setup, the roll cutter's driver controls both the roll cutter via Summa's GoSign software and the flatbed cutter via GoProduce software. Twin X mode utilizes square registration marks and supports all plot files (.PLT), facilitating seamless transitions between different cutting tasks and maximizing the strengths of each machine.

To set up Summa's Twin X mode within PrintFactory, follow these steps:

1. Configure the Summa S Class 2 Driver in your RIP
Set the output mode to 'folder output'. This configuration will generate the necessary .plt files.

2. Ensure Summa Software Compatibility:
Verify that both Summa GoSign(for roll2roll) and Summa GoProduce (for flatbed) software are installed.
Confirm that your Summa licenses include the capability to read .plt files. (earlier version of GoProduce did not read .plt)

3. Set Up Your Job:
  • Use the Summa S Class 2 driver as the cutter when creating your print and cut job. Use the default Summa S Class cutting marks.(square)

Define Cutting Paths:

  • Include two distinct cutting paths in your job:
    • Kiss-Cut Path: For use with Summa GoSign.
    • Flex-Cut Path: For use with Summa GoProduce.

Software Behavior:

  • Summa GoProduce:
    • Converts the Flex-Cut path into a Thru-Cut path.
    • Automatically hides the Kiss-Cut path.
  • Summa GoSign:
    • Hides the Flex-Cut path.
    • Only processes the Kiss-Cut path.

4. Import the job using the Summa TwinX action sets:
Import the .plt file from PrintFactory, into Summa Gosign first, and cut the kiss-cut paths. Next, import the same file into Summa GoProduce and cut the thru-cut paths.

If you don't have these Action sets, contact Summa Support for help. The import action set will perform the necessary hiding or converting of paths automatically.

Note: It is possible to add a 3rd tool to be used by either GoSign or GoProduce. You can add a 3rd path into your print & cut job using the "Pen" tool. If you do this, you will need to add an additional step to your Summa TwinX import action set in both Summa software, which will decide how to interpret this path & which cutter should cut it. For further support on that contact Summa Support.
