Tiling - Layout Component

Tiling Tool

The Tiling tool divides large artwork into smaller tiles for production. Tile horizontally (columns), vertically (rows), or both; choose tiles by count or by size; and add overlaps plus assembly marks.

When to use it

  • Graphics that exceed printer/media limits.
  • Sectioning wall wraps, vehicles, billboards into strips.
  • Overlaps for welding, seaming, or safety margins.

Open the tool

  1. Open the Workflow Editor.
  2. Add/select the Tiling step and click Configure.

Setup dialog

Divide into Columns

  • Tile in columns – Enables horizontal tiling.
  • Column count or Column size – Choose number of columns or exact width (only one method used).
  • Horizontal overlap – Width of horizontal overlap.
  • Left / Right – Apply overlap on left and/or right edges.

Divide into Rows

  • Tile in rows – Enables vertical tiling.
  • Row count or Row size – Choose number of rows or exact height (only one method used).
  • Vertical overlap – Width of vertical overlap.
  • Top / Bottom – Apply overlap on top and/or bottom edges.

Marks & identifiers

  • Alignment Lines – Prints marks outside tiles to align edges.
  • Overlap Lines – Adds alignment lines inside overlaps.
  • Tile ID – Prints a tile identifier in the overlap.

Overlap White

Sets a non‑printed band inside the overlap as a welding/adhesive area.

Variable tab

Every field is available as a variable (columns/rows on/off, by size vs count, sizes/counts, overlaps and edge selection, marks, IDs, overlap white).

How it works

  1. Reads your horizontal/vertical choices and uses either count or size per direction (mutually exclusive).
  2. Applies overlap width only on selected edges; reserves a print‑free Overlap White if set.
  3. Generates tiles for each original part, preserving scale/orientation and duplicating for copies.
  4. Saves tile metadata so downstream steps and printers output exactly as configured.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use count for fixed strips; use size for exact panel dimensions.
  • Apply overlap to one side for single‑layer seams; both sides for symmetric joins.
  • Reserve a small Overlap White for welding or adhesive zones.
  • Enable Tile ID and alignment/overlap lines for fast installation.
