Trim & Bleed - Document Component
The Trim & Bleed tool prepares artwork for finishing by adding bleed and defining the trim area. Choose a rectangular Box as the reference, or expand along cut Contours used by finishing devices. Methods include Document, Mirror, Stretch, and Solid Color.
When to use it
- Add or increase bleed before Layout, Tiling, or output to printer/nester.
- Expand artwork around cut paths for accurate finishing.
- Fill bleed with mirrored/stretched pixels, existing document bleed, or a solid color.
How it works
- Select Trim to: Box or Contour.
- Set bleed widths and method; the tool computes the new boundary and writes it to the job.
- Downstream steps print/cut using the updated geometry.
Box Mode (rectangular)
- Trim to: Box – Enables Box mode.
- Box – MediaBox, CropBox, TrimBox, etc.
- Bleed – Left, Top, Right, Bottom widths (mm).
- Method – Document, Mirror, Stretch, or Color.
- No Corners – Suppress corner patches when needed.
Contour Mode (along cut paths)
- Trim to: Contour – Enables Contour mode.
- Layer list – For each layer: Enable, Method (Document/Mirror/Stretch), Width (mm), Inset (mm).
- Outer – Applies to the main outline; other rows affect Kiss, Thru, Draw, etc.
Variable tab
| Field | Description |
|---|
| Apply to | Box or Contour. |
| Bleed method | Document / Mirror / Stretch / Color. |
| Bleed amount | Box side widths or per-layer width. |
| Box name | PDF box used in Box mode. |
| Box incl. corners | Include or suppress corner patches. |
| Box bleed color | Color to use when method is Color. |
| Contour inset | Inward offset for contour layers. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Use Mirror for photos; Stretch for simple graphics where mirroring would look odd.
- Choose Document to respect existing bleed when supplied.
- Use a solid color for flat backgrounds or brand panels.
- For cutting, set bleed on Outer and fine‑tune per Kiss/Thru layers.
- Enable No Corners to avoid corner seams if required.
Summary
Trim & Bleed ensures clean edges for print and finishing—either around a PDF box or along contours—so downstream steps produce neat, reliable results.
