Canon Colorado
The Canon Colorado offers flexibility with margins through its Print Feed Correction feature. In the RIP driver, you can select from four margin settings:
- By Media: Uses the margin set in the Canon Media Configurator. see screenshot below
- Below is the Canon Media Configurator found in Calibrator
- None: No margin is applied.
- Normal: Adds a 13 mm margin on each side.
- Enhanced: Adds a 17.5 mm margin on each side. (This is recommended as default when using Cloud Nesting)
When using cloud nesting, it’s recommended to select the Enhanced margin in the driver settings. This is because cloud nesting references this setting to avoid errors, particularly since it cannot dynamically adjust based on different media profiles (PMMs) or printer models.
How Cloud Nesting Handles Margins for the Colorado
Cloud nesting is designed to support a vast array of printers, allowing jobs to be nested across different devices. Because the cloud system cannot predict which printer will ultimately be used from each queue, it defaults to the largest margin required by any of the printers in your queue. For instance, if both a Canon Colorado and an HP Latex printer are in use, the cloud nesting will apply the largest margin 17.5 mm (if recommended default of Enhanced is set in the driver) to all jobs, even if they end up being printed on the HP printer, which only needs a 5 mm margin.
The Colorado line of printers have new media handling functionalities not previously seen. Therefore we have adapted the Calibrator to support this new workflow. This FAQ explains how this is implemented using VISU profile creation. MX is not compatible with firmware builds 1.2 and onwards.
A new Media Catalog is used by the printer to identify media characteristics. This media catalog is managed as a ‘master’ by the RIP, each change is synchronised from the RIP to the Printer. Therefore any new media settings needs to be defined in Calibrator before a new profile is created.
This FAQ assumes the printer has been configured in RIP and is network connected.
VISU Profiles
In VISU the new Media Catalogue is fully integrated. So you can define or choose your media at the start of the profiling process.
Step 1
- Click on the New VISU Profile Icon
- Choose the Océ Colorado
- Click New

Select the media you want to use for the profile, or add a new one by clicking on the + icon:

If a new media type is required you will be able to define it using the new Media Creation screen, which allows you to define your media settings:
Clicking OK will add the new Media to the list of media available and also send the new media type to the printer.
You can then continue to create your profile using the normal profile creation process.
Note: when importing a VISU PMM for the Colorado, make sure the media is created in the printer first, then after importing the PMM, check the media in the Printer Settings in the Mode and unlock and adjust if required.
Only after printing will the media databases sync.
When having multiple Colorado printers of same model, the pmms are shared. Below is described how also the medias can be shared.
How
Calibrator:
- Select the printer for which you wish the media to add
- select the mode of the media
- then select Canon Colorado Media icon
=> If the media is not present in the media list the question is popped whether you wish to add it. - Click Yes to add.
