Setting up a Colex Cutter with Colex SharpCut.
Setting Up a Colex Cutter in PrintFactory
When configuring a Colex Sharpcut cutter with PrintFactory, there are two common setup issues that can prevent successful output. This guide walks you through how to resolve both.
1. Port Number Configuration
By default, cutter devices may expect traffic on port 9100, but Colex Sharpcut often uses a different port.
✅ To verify and update the correct port:
-
Open Colex Sharpcut on the cutter PC.
-
Go to:
Default Settings > Material Database
Locate the Port Number field.
-
In PrintFactory RIP, go to Devices, double-click on your Colex cutter, and update the IP address to include the port:
Example: 192.168.111.45:51000

2. Layer Setup for OXF Files
PrintFactory outputs cut files in the OXF format, which the Colex software interprets based on assigned layers.
✅ To ensure proper alignment and mark detection:
- In Colex Sharpcut, open the layer configuration page (often found in the job preparation or import section).
- Make sure the following layer is added: regmark (used by PrintFactory for registration marks)
Without the regmark layer, the cutter will not detect marks correctly, which can lead to alignment issues or failed jobs.
Final Checks
Confirm that OXF files are being written to the correct hot folder.
Test with a simple print-and-cut job using visible regmarks.
If marks are not detected, re-check layer naming and file path access.
