The Label tool adds a printed label to your job or each part of a job in a PrintFactory workflow. Labels are designed in the Editor and stored in your Cloud Hub → Resources → Labels folder for shared use. They can include text, barcodes, images, and job data fields to identify or track printed items.
Overview
Use the Label tool to automatically place identification or tracking labels on your output. Each label is based on a design (.aur or .label file) uploaded to your Cloud Hub. The tool retrieves your available labels, lets you choose one, and prints it in the selected position, alignment, and scope (job or part).
Before You Start
- Ensure your label designs are uploaded to Cloud Hub → Resources → Labels.
- Labels can be created in the Editor and include dynamic fields such as job name, operator, or barcode—see Custom Job Labels for setup guidance.
- For help with creating and uploading labels, refer to Labels and Jig Resources – Upload and Download.
- Open the Workflow Editor in PrintFactory.
- Add or select the Label step.
- Click Configure to open the setup dialog.
Label Setup Dialog
The setup dialog shows all available label designs found in your Cloud Hub. Each option displays its name and size. Choose your label and how it should be applied.
How It Works
When the workflow runs, the selected label layout is automatically applied to the job according to the chosen settings. Each label can include static text or dynamic job data fields (e.g., job name, printer, date, barcode, media type, or operator). These fields are automatically filled in when the label prints.
Depending on the scope:
- Job Scope – One label is printed for the entire job.
- Part Scope – A label is printed for each part of the job (for example, each tile or individual item).
Using Label in Workflows
- Ensure the required label exists in Cloud Hub → Resources → Labels.
- Add the Label step to your workflow after layout or cutting steps, but before final output.
- Open the setup dialog and select your label.
- Adjust the Position, Alignment, and Scope options as required.
- Enable Inside if you want the label to appear within the printed area.
- Click OK and run the workflow. Your label will appear on each job according to your configuration.
Tips & Best Practices
- Design labels in the Editor with dynamic fields for job metadata. These are automatically filled in when printed.
- Keep label sizes consistent with your job format for easy positioning.
- Use the Scope option to control labeling granularity—Part for production tracking, Job for packaging or delivery.
- Enable Inside when you want the label to be printed on the artwork, not the margin.
- Test each label design on a proof to confirm placement before production.
- For barcoded or QR‑coded labels, verify scanner readability before final printing.
Summary
The Label tool automates the addition of identification, barcoding, and tracking labels to your jobs. It connects to your Cloud Hub resources, supports per‑job or per‑part application, and ensures every item leaving production is clearly identified and traceable.
