Trim and Bleed Tool

Trim and Bleed Tool

The Trim and Bleed tool automates file preparation for True shape nesting.  With this tool, Documents no longer require a CutContour or Spot for tool mapping to allow TSN.
After Trim and Bleed tool below, the files are ready for the next step: True Shape nesting

What the Trim & Bleed (Prepare) tool does

- automatically creates a nest shape from the image
- adds or recognises the cut layer or spot.
- masks document bleed
- allows for various options for bleed and size
- splits images enabling re-nesting of individual parts.

Trim and bleed function is found in Editor -> Extra -> Trim and Bleed and in  Layout -> Edit -> Trim and Bleed

A.  Creating Nest Shape and Cut Contour

The steps below are started from Layout.

Layout:
  1. Set the copies of the image and Select all images (Cmd+A)
  2. Edit -> Trim and Bleed (Cmd+E)
  3. Set the bleed method:  Mirror, Document or Stretch, Bleed width and/ or Inset.

  4.  Creating the Cut Layers and Nest shape:
Depending on cut information in the document the Tool will suggest various option:

                  1. Image with Cut Layer: the layer is recognised and appears in the tool mapping list to be mapped to a Tool
                  2. Image with Spot colors: the Spots are mapped to the Cut layer and the Cut layer to the tools
                  3. Image only, no cut date:  the CutContour is created from the Image, the selected Cut Layer can then be mapped to the corresponding tool.

               1. Image with a Cut Layer

  1. Map the layer to a tool

               2. Image with Spot colors

  1. The spots are recognised and they can be mapped to a Cut layer
Note: in example below, if both spots were mapped to the same tool, the bleed would also be applied to Cut2.
  2. The chosen Cut Layer names then appear in the Tool Mapping list in the Cutting window and those need to be mapped to the Cut Tool.

Example 2:  The Document bleed is masked, both cut1 and 2 spots can be mapped to a cut Layer and the free space inside the image is used for nesting.

       3. Image only, no cut data

  1. CutContour Layer is created from the Page content.
  2. Select the Cut Layer name -> OK
  3. The nest shape is created from the document and the selected Cut Layer appears in the Cutter Window for tool mapping.

    B.  Cut Contour options:

            - Create inner Cut Contour:
Inner cut contour illustrated in the example below creates the cut lines in the inside of the letter B.
The Distance refers to the distance of the cut contour to the image, applicable to both outside and inside cut contour.

            - Accuracy:
The accuracy of the auto created cut contour can be fine tuned either by custom settings or by defaults:  High, Low and Medium.

C. Split for Re-nest

Split for Re-nest allows a nested group of documents to be split based on shape.  For the object a nest shape is created as per the above rules.
The minimum object size defines from what is the min. size of an object to quality for being split.
      Example below.

D. Border

A border can be added outside of the nest shape. The border is a printed line and serves for optical scanners, detecting shapes or for manual cut.
